Jamia Millia Islamia Zakir Husain JMI Library

Dr. Zakir Husain Library, which was founded in 1922 and later named after Dr. Zakir Husain, former President of India and Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, serves as the University’s Central Library. Dr. Zakir Husain Central Library, with a total collection of nearly 4 lakh books, bound volumes of journals, manuscripts, rare books, and a globally acclaimed oriental collection, is one of the most well-equipped university libraries in the country in terms of resources, services, and infrastructures, and is housed in an independent four-story building. The JMI Library is entirely automated, and it makes considerable use of current technology to provide its services. The online catalogue allows you to search the collection.
The JMI library provides a peaceful, serene, and conducive environment for students, research scholars, and faculty members to access a huge variety of learning resources throughout the year, providing both on and off-campus access to over 17 thousand full-text e-journals, corporate, financial, statistical, and citation analysis databases, and a large number of e-books.

To transform the Dr. Zakir Husain Central Library into a world-class learning resource center that promotes teaching, learning, and research by acquiring, developing, and delivering matching scholarly critical and independent knowledge resources to patrons anytime/anywhere, as well as providing well-equipped & vibrant, inclusive physical spaces where all sections of learners can pursue independent learning outside the classroom and engage in a meaningful experience.

Manuscripts Section
The Jamia Millia Islamia library has a valuable collection of 2237 manuscripts from the 14th to the 20th centuries in Arabic, Persian, and Urdu.

E LIBRARY
A well-equipped e- JMI Library allows 24×7 access to a huge number of electronic materials in all disciplines from wherever on campus, at home, or in other remote locations. Dr. Zakir Husain library has a big E-Resources Centre with 100 or more users who can access electronic databases of journals, ebooks, and reference materials that the university has subscribed to.
The Dr. Zakir husain library hosts regular orientation and information literacy sessions about these resources with the goal of promoting awareness among professors and research researchers about the importance of maximising e-resource usage.

General Rules
- Members are not permitted to bring their items, books, or other written material inside the Jamia Millia Islamia library, including library books that they have borrowed (except to return them).
- Members leaving the library should show the security staff at the gate the materials they have borrowed or taken out of the library. Laptops (without carrying cases) are permitted in the library;
- However, members must not replace books on the shelves; instead, they may place them on the reading tables.
- Members who are detected shredding pages or stealing books will face disciplinary action according to University policies.
- Outside users who wish to utilize the library’s materials must first acquire authorization from the on-duty library staff.
- Members are liable for any damage they cause to the JMI library’s books or other property and must pay the penalty determined by the University Librarian.
Library Infrastructure/Facilities
Library offers an amazing infrastructure and reading facilities, thanks to current IT-driven technologies. Dr. Zakir Husain Library’s new building was dedicated in 2009. It has a total area of 9,930 square meters (1.06 million square feet). The Reading Hall Annexe (Old Building) is also 11,000 square feet. Both facilities have a total seating capacity of 1400 people. The JMI library is well-equipped with all of the latest technology.

Light Reading Section
The JMI library has recently added a Light Reading Section for its members’ general reading needs, which contains best-selling biographies, fiction, fashions, arts, cinema, music, culture, and lifestyle books.
