On March 28, 1998, by the government, Master Gobind Singh Indraprastha University was established as Indraprastha University (IPU). of NCT Delhi as a state college under the arrangements of the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998, with its amendment in 1999. The University Grants Commission (India) perceives the university under Area 12B of the UGC Act. The college was named after the old fanciful city of Indraprastha, which includes the legendary Mahabharata. 2001, the college was renamed Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) after the 10th Sikh Guru Gobind Singh.
